Well-being at work in Luxembourg: for two in three employees, the food is just as important as the atmosphere

- 65% of employees in Luxembourg believe that eating well at work contributes to their wellbeing
- Only 33% of residents feel that their employer takes concrete action to promote their wellbeing, compared with 59% of cross-border workers
- 14% of employees in Luxembourg do not have any wellbeing-related benefits at their company.
This is revealed by the Edenred Luxembourg Employee Barometer, carried out by an independent research firm amongst 1,025 employees working in the Grand Duchy, including both residents and cross-border workers (from France, Belgium and Germany). Behind an overall well-being rate of 59%, the survey reveals very different realities depending on the profile. And whilst Luxembourg employers express a willingness to take action, residents do not yet feel this commitment.
Experiences vary significantly by profile
59% of active employees in Luxembourg rate their well-being at work positively. However, this overall figure masks a notable gap: 69% of cross-border workers feel happy at work, compared with 50% of residents. This disparity can be partly explained by the level of well-being benefits provided, which varies significantly depending on employee profiles. 14% of residents have no well-being scheme at their company.
Between intentions and perception: room for improvement
59% of cross-border workers believe their employer takes concrete action to promote their well-being. Among residents, this figure falls to 33%. And when asked whether the initiatives in place match their actual expectations, 58% of cross-border workers answer positively, compared with only 24% of residents.
Food: a concrete and highly valued well-being lever
65% of employees in Luxembourg say that having options for healthy eating at work, whether this means a quality lunch break, meal vouchers or a healthy offer nearby, contributes to their well-being. This figure rises to 71% among cross-border workers and stands at 57% among residents. Among the well-being benefits actually offered by employers, meal vouchers rank in the top three: 30% of employees receive them as part of such schemes.
Simple measures that make a difference
Well-being at work cannot be imposed. It is built on concrete, everyday measures: remote working (38%), workplace atmosphere and team building (32%), meal vouchers (30%). These are the benefits most frequently offered by Luxembourg employers, and they are valued by all employees, residents and cross-border workers alike.
“Well-being at work has become a criterion when choosing an employer. What employees are asking for are tangible benefits: eating well, feeling valued, and enjoying genuine benefits. Companies that take action on these simple levers make a real difference, notably by seeing lower absenteeism and stronger engagement. This is precisely where Edenred supports employers in Luxembourg,” says Patrick Langlois, Managing Director of Edenred Luxembourg.
