Edenred now offers the option to use meal vouchers with Google Pay in a first for Luxembourg
An additional mobile payment solution for all Edenred card users in Luxembourg
From now on, all employees in Luxembourg with an Edenred card may use Google Pay to pay with meal vouchers. This is a logical next step in Edenred’s innovation strategy. By taking this step, the company is responding to its users’ desire to use Ticket Restaurant vouchers for mobile and online payments, in what is a first for Luxembourg.
Luxembourg, 23 March 2023 – Edenred, a global leader in payment solutions for specific uses (meal vouchers, gifts), continues to innovate in the wake of launching its new card. After listening to its stakeholders and analysing the most significant trends worldwide, Edenred felt it was time to reinvent its offering.
Today, Edenred is taking a new step forwards in bringing meal vouchers into the 21st century, and as such is the first issuer on the Luxembourg market to allow users to pay with meal vouchers using Google Pay.
All Edenred card users can now make mobile payments using Google Pay at all partner stores in the Ticket Restaurant network with a contactless (NFC) terminal. And to top it all off, it’s easy, secure and protected.
In Luxembourg, most merchants in the Mastercard network allow payments by smartphone using Google Pay.
What is Google Pay?
Google Pay is a new service in Luxembourg. Edenred, an innovative company, has chosen to offer this service directly to its customers. Why? Because Google Pay is an easy, fast and secure way to make the most of your Edenred card. It allows you to pay for your meal or food shop directly on your smartphone, without needing to have your card on you.
The benefits of mobile payments with Google Pay
- Easy:
- You no longer need to carry your Edenred card with you
- Allows you to share your card with your partner or family
- Fast:
- You hold your phone to the payment terminal, and it’s sorted in seconds
- For partners, purchases made at the till will be faster
- Secure:
- Making sure data is secure and protected are high priorities with Google Pay. Outside the payment transaction, card numbers are not stored on the device or on Google servers, and are never shared with merchants. No transaction data is able to be traced, nor is it stored, which ensures all purchases remain confidential.
- To pay, you no longer have to log in; all you have to do is unlock your phone and enter your PIN if requested.
Digital Ticket Restaurant vouchers are loaded onto a card made from recycled PVC and can be used with the card, contactless via NFC, online as well as mobile payments via Apple Pay and now with Google Pay.
Thanks to the extranet and the MyEdenred app, card users can check their card balance wherever they are in real time, view their transaction history and find partners who accept Ticket Restaurant vouchers in their area.
“Google Pay has been available in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg since the start of this year. Having had a local team in the country for 30 years, Edenred is leading the way once again with its recent launch of digital meal vouchers in Luxembourg. With mobile payments becoming the new normal, it is only natural that our cards also work with Google Pay, a first in Luxembourg,” says Olivier Bouquet, CEO of Edenred Luxembourg.
